Assessments

At Lachlan Valley Psychology and Wellbeing, we provide comprehensive, high-quality assessments for children and adolescents in a way that is respectful, collaborative, and supportive. Our goal is to make the process as positive and empowering as possible — one that leads to clarity, confidence, and tailored recommendations to help people thrive.

What are assessments for?

A well-conducted assessment can offer valuable insights — not just a diagnosis, but a deeper understanding of how someone thinks, learns, and interacts with the world. An assessment can help with:

  • Understanding daily challenges (e.g., with school or at work)

  • Highlighting strengths and how these can be nurtured

  • Identifying areas that require support

  • Accessing appropriate support and funding

  • Guiding intervention (e.g., therapy, educational support)

Our Assessments

We provide a range of psychological assessments for adults, adolescents and children, including:

  • Autism Assessments (ADOS & ADI-R)

  • Cognitive (IQ) Assessments

  • Adaptive Functioning Assessments

  • Learning and Behavioural Assessments

  • Disability Support Pension Assessment for Supporting Evidence

Assessments are conducted with care, clarity, and a neuroaffirming approach to ensure the process is meaningful, respectful and genuinely helpful. Assessments can help provide understanding, guide intervention, and assist with accessing supports.

What does the assessment process look like?

Getting to know you

We begin with a consultation to understand your concerns and goals. This may include chatting about background information such as development, behaviour, learning, or daily life as well as medical, educational and social history. It’s also a chance to ask questions and feel comfortable with the process.

Assessment

You or your child will attend one or more sessions where we complete various activities or tasks designed to explore thinking, learning, communication, or behaviour. This is done through structured interviews, observations & using validated tools. These sessions are calm, supportive, and paced to suit individual needs.

Understanding Results

After the sessions, we carefully review all of the information gathered, interpret the results and outline everything in a comprehensive report.

We focus on building a full picture of strengths, challenges, and support needs — not just numbers on a page.

Feedback & Next Steps

We will meet with you to talk through the findings. You will receive a clear, written report with practical recommendations that can support you at home, at school, in therapy, or when applying for services (like the NDIS). This is also an opportunity for you to ask questions and provide feedback.
